Selecting Patients
SpringCharts has two methods of selecting patients: Standard
Search and Rapid Select. The Standard
Search is provided for those who are new to SpringCharts and
expect traditional conventions in working with, selecting, and activating
functions. The Rapid Select is for users who are interested in saving keystrokes and time
during the patient selection process.
The use of one approach or the other can be easily
set as a user preference.
Standard Search
A patient search can be initiated in many different ways from
many different parts of SpringCharts. The most typical
methods are selecting the Patient Chart Icon (
)
on the Main Window menu bar or selecting Actions > Open a Chart from
the Main Window. In each case, the
following dialog appears:

To Choose a Patient, click in the upper box,
enter the first letter or two of the patient's last name and then click
. The patients matching the search criteria appear on the screen:

Click or tap the proper patient and the patient's chart
opens. Standard Search is the SpringCharts default.
Rapid Select
A faster method of searching is the Rapid Select
feature. The Rapid Select feature can be set as
default by changing User Preferences as shown at the end of
this Tutorial.
Once the preferences are changed, the Choose
Patient screen changes to the following:

Do not select or tap anything! Just type the first letter
or two of the patient's last name and pause. In this example, an 'a'
was keyed and the dialog looks as follows:

Click or tap the name you wish to select and the patient chart
opens.
Each user can select their own personal preference for
patient selection. To do so, from the Main Window,
select File > User Preferences > Edit User Preferences.
The dialog box below will appear. The user can then set their patient
Search Mode as either Standard Select
or Rapid Select.
